Villa Miralago is situated in extensive landscaped gardens in the Italian half of Lake Lugano. There are antiques, paintings, rare books, and even a Bluthner grand piano. Lake Lugano is a more intimate and less commercial setting than Lake Como, and Villa Miralago takes full advantage of this. All the floors have large South-facing terraces that take in stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. In Winter, log fires blaze as the snow falls outside.
The Commune of Valsolda is famous in Italy as the setting for the nineteenth-century novels of Antonio Fogazzaro, one of Italy’s greatest writers and poets. It consists of eight small late-medieval villages and is considered to be an area of outstanding natural beauty and tranquillity. Many of these villages boast fine Baroque churches and frescoes; all have spectacular mountainside settings. There is breathtaking walking and hiking in the mountains behind the Villa, and many of the routes are suitable for mountain bikes. The whole area is protected by numerous layers of Italian and European conservation legislation and the paths and trails are very well maintained.
The Villa is situated at an altitude of 80m above the lake. It has access to a private, gated lakeside beach which it shares with some of the other surrounding villas. This beach is seldom used by many, even at the height of Summer, and offers views across the water to Mt. San Salvatore. There are bathing steps into the lake as well as a shower and changing room. The beach is only a ten minute walk from the Villa.
It is possible to bring a boat to the Villa and guests have done this with great success in the past. The owners have an arrangement with a nearby (5 mins. by car) private jetty and boat repair shop. Moorings can be rented from them by the day, and they are on hand to offer advice and assistance. They also offer waterskiing, windsurfing, and other water sports.
Unusually, the Villa can be rented as a whole, or the middle and upper floors can be rented as separate apartments. The middle floor consists of: drawing room, 2 large terraces, 2 double bedrooms, one twin-bedded room, a spacious study, 2 bathrooms (bath and separate shower) and fully-fitted kitchen. The upper floor consists of: drawing room, 2 large terraces, 2 double bedrooms, one twin-bedded room, 2 bathrooms (bath and separate shower) and fully-fitted kitchen. The ground floor offers a large garden room with 3 sets of French doors leading to the extensive terraced area at the front of Villa. A designated room houses a full-size table tennis table. The 7th bedroom (twin-bedded) is located in its own wing off the garden room. It is adjacent to a large bathroom (bath and separate shower) and has its own sitting room. The owners have agreed that all rentals will be on an exclusive occupancy basis so that the privacy of guests can be assured. One of the great attractions of the Villa is the possibility to dine on any of the 3 main South facing terraces. Each level offers different magical views across the lake to the village of Osteno and the surrounding Italian and Swiss mountains. The ground floor terrace incorporates a covered stone-arched BBQ area with large gas BBQ and teak dining table and chairs.
What is striking in the presentation of this Villa is the attention to detail: marble floors, exquisitely tiled bathrooms, sumptuous bed linen, silk cushions on the terraces, beautifully lit gardens, and Nespresso machines in the kitchens. For English guests there is even BBC (TV & Radio) and ITV (TV) in addition to the normal SKYItalia channels. A broadband WIFI network can also be accessed from anywhere in the Villa.
It is a requirement of the owners that their (non-resident) housekeeper service the Villa for a few hours each day. There is also a gardener who will come once a week to maintain the grounds.

There are no additional charges for credit or debit card payments. However, all bank transfer fees are the responsibility of the sender. To make a confirmed booking, you will be asked to fill in our booking form online and pay a 30% deposit. The remaining balance will then be due 6 weeks before arrival.
